We have weekly meetups Mondays 6-8 pm in H2.03 along with a few other events throughout the year. These meetups will mostly feature general discussion of recent developments in everything aerospace, space exploration and of course Kerbal Space Program; some will contain a mini workshop/seminar for the first half hour or so relating to the basic principles of rocketry or aerospace, or a particular area of interest such as colonising mars perhaps.
Please see our provisional term 1 timetable for more information.
The bigger workshops comprise of beginner and intermediate rocketry, drones and hopefully more; with the smaller workshops detailing propulsion systems, electronics and simulation software.
The first meetup of the year, Monday 12 October, in week 2, is the return of the instant classic, the Beginners Rocketry Workshop. Bring along £5 to contribute to the rocket kits. Come along and build a small model rocket, which we hope to launch in week 2-4 (weather dependent!).
If you’re interested in coming any of the planned trips below or have other ideas and/or contacts then please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org, over facebook or come along to one of our meet ups and chat to us in person.
Student Space Conference
The 2016 UKSEDS National Student Space Conference took place at the University of Sheffield, spread over the whole weekend at the end of February; a few of us went along and had a great time. The 2017 conference will be around the same time of year, over a weekend, and we plan to send a few of us along again.
The society has recently purchased a telescope jointly with the physics society and plans to run some amateur astronomy sessions, weather permitting over some weekends this term. Watch this space for further details.
