RC AIRCRAFT

Project Manager: Ben Roberts

Chief Engineer: Nathan Durrant

MISSION:

Our RC Aircraft division is made up of three dedicated teams, each focused on designing, developing, and building innovative RC aircraft. Our mission is to create a competitive but collaborative environment where we can learn, experiment, and push our skills to the next level. Through hands-on experience and a shared passion for innovation, we are working towards the goal of competing internationally in the future.

PROJECT TIMELINE:

—Phase 1: Design—

  • Design and analyse 3 RC Aircraft according to a specification
  • Create CAD designs of each plane and conduct simulations (FEA and CFD) to validate design decisions alongside mathematical calculations

—Phase 2: Building & Testing—

  • Procure appropriate materials
  • Assemble aircraft using effective engineering principles and equipment
  • Conduct flight training to allow each team member to test fly their planes when permitted

—Phase 3: Competition—

  • In-house competition at the end of the academic year
  • Individual aircraft created by the 3 sub-teams judged on multiple parameters

FUTURE PLANS:

The knowledge and skills gained from designing, building, and competing through the course of the year will lay the foundation for future success. The experience gathered will help refine technical abilities, problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking, equipping future teams with the expertise and confidence needed to compete on a larger, international stage.
